Its solid steel, pry-resistant door has concealed hinges and 2 steel live action locking bolts, and it includes a gas lift on the door that pops the lid up when the locking bolts are released and holds the lid in place when open.
The safe offers pre-drilled holes for mounting to floor or shelf, and fastening hardware is included. Other features include an egg crate foam padded bottom, an electronic lock, and hidden trouble key.
This Stack-On safe is a California approved firearms safety device that meets the requirements of California Penal Code Section 12088 and the regulations issued thereunder. When storing firearms it is recommended that safes be bolted to the floor, a shelf, or wall for added security.

Perhaps, if I was being attacked in my home, I could hit a burglar with it, but a frying pan to the head hurts just as much and actually performs its intended purpose (unlike this safe).The saga of this safe might go down in history as the biggest headache I've ever had with an Amazon product - Vine or regular. - September, 2011: I receive the safe in the mail and attempt to set it up. It does NOT come with a safety key, and therefore when I close the lid to set the lock code, it locks itself and won't open, even with the 1-2-3-4 default code. No beeps, no nothing. I assumed the batteries were backwards, and chalked it up to my own stupidity. - Nov, 2011: A notorized form, copy of my driver's license, copy of the Amazon receipt, and a ten dollar check later, I received an envelope containing two keys (it only took several *weeks* to arrive, as apparently my ten dollar check... I must admit with most of the reviewers on Amazon, The construction quality of the plastic parts are very poor, The metal parts are heavy and reasonably strong, The included Keys are cheaply made, The Biometric lock works but is slightly temperamental, You need to make sure that your fingers are not moist or dirty and must align properly to record the 32 possible finger prints.IMHO, The main reason one would buy a safe with Biometric locking mechanism is the quick ease of use, But this drawer safe is not quick enough for that task, if you start fumbling with your fingers to get the Biometric lock to open and keep trying to open the safe in real need to open the drawer quickly to get a hold of your gun or other items in need you are better off using the keypad or included keys which thankfully work just fine.
