It heats evenly and quickly, even when boiling water on my GAS cooktop. But the pot is a little heavy all by itself, so full of water it can be hard to manage. The turned up handles stay cool on the stove and really help the pouring when draining pasta, potatoes, etc. The lid is perfectly shaped inside to cause steam to condense, flow to the center, and drip on the food, basting it perfectly - which is another reason to use this pot for roasting in the oven.
